First Six Flags Park Opens

I don’t know about y’all but I love theme parks, always have and always will. I honestly don’t know why I do because I remember getting on the Mind Bender at Six Flags over Georgia and screaming and crying for my mama lol. But nevertheless I love them and the reason I’m talking about it today is because the very first Six Flags Park opened today back in 1961.

It was opened by an oil tycoon which I didn’t know until today which explains that game oil tycoon lol. Anyway his name was Angus Wynne Jr. The park was supposed to be temporary but it did so well that he changed his mind. He made back his investment in 18 months. The property was going to be turned into an industrial complex.

Wynne reportedly recouped his personal investment of $3.5 million within 18 months and changed his mind about the park’s temporary status.

Which by the way I’m glad he did or we wouldn’t have a Six Flags over Georgia to enjoy today. I will always remember going there with fond memories even though the Mind Bender scared the crap out of me.

I encourage you to go check out the article on it on the History Channel’s website. It’s a very interesting read.
